ISOVOLTA Group
ISOVOLTA AG is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Constantia - Iso AG and has its headquarters in Wiener Neudorf.
The company is among the leading international manufacturers of technical laminates, composite materials and electrical insulation materials, as well as products for airplane interiors and fire & heat protection materials.
ISOVOLTA AG was established in 1949 in Werndorf, near Graz, as "ISOVOLTA Austrian Insulation Works H. Turnauer & Co. KG" to manufacture insulation materials for electrical industry.
In 1954, a second product group - decorative laminates - went into production.
The factory in Wiener Neudorf was opened in 1962.
Besides rigid laminates for the electrical, leisure and aircraft industries, a line of decorative laminates (MAX sheets) for the furniture industry were produced.
Strong growth of the division for Fire Protection Elements led to the setting-up of a subsidiary, Thermax Fire Protection Elements Ltd., in 1971.
Isovolta India Private was established in 1984 to manufacture electrial insulation materials for the Indian market.
Airdec aircraft laminates completed the development phase and went into production in 1987.
The trading subsidiary, Isovolta Hongkong Ltd, was set up in 1989.
In 1992, ISOVOLTA acquired an interest in Teinser S.A. in Barcelona, Spain.
To improve the service capabilities in Asia, a joint venture was initiated to build a manufacturing plant in China. Changzhou Isovolta Electrical Insulation Materials Ltd. began production in 1996.
Also, in 1996 ISOVOLTA bought into Nippon Rika Kogyosho Ltd. and Nippon Rika Isovolta Co. Ltd. was established in Mibu, Japan.
The expansion strategy continued in 1998 with the part purchase of Isovolta S.A. (former ICME S.A.) in Bucharest, Romania.
In 2001 ISOVOLTA acquired Gatex, the European market leader in processing of technical and decorative laminates.
In 2002 the decorative division, which had been consistently successful over decades, was reconstituted as an independent company, Isomax Decorative Laminates AG.
Since this reorganization, ISOVOLTA AG has specialized once again in technical products.
In 2003 acquired US SAMICA Inc. by ISOVOLTA AG via its 100% US subsidiary ISOVOLTA Inc.
With the acquisition of US SAMICA Inc. - the second biggest North American producer of High Voltage Electrical Insulation Materials - ISOVOLTA has now 13 manufacturing locations worldwide.
All plants are ISO 9001- or ISO 9002- approved and their products satisfy all relevant international standards.
Their global operations are organized in the following 4 divisions, based on product groups:
- Electrical Insulation & Rigid Laminates manufactures high-pressure laminates and flexible insulation materials for the electrical industry, both for high voltage and low voltage.
- Technical Composites makes prepregs and laminates for the sport and leisure sector, the automotive industry, and for other mechanical engineering applications. Special flexible composite films, which are used in making solar modules, are also made.
- Fire Protection supplies fire protection boards based on vermiculite to the shipbuilding and construction industries.
- Aviation & Transportation produces semifinished materials for airplane and railway interiors. This division is the only systems supplier in of Interior Materials for the aviation sector that develops and manufactures both technical and decorative materials.
